The Green Zone of the Trangie-Nevertire Irrigation Scheme refers to that section of the scheme where properties will remain irrigation farms.  Property owners in the Green Zone will receive capital and grant funds to modernise and make more efficient their irrigation enterprises.  The ultimate goal in this part of the project is to realise water savings via operational efficiencies.

The most significant part of the Green Zone Scheme modernisation project will be the upgrading and lining of all Scheme channels. The choice of liner has been made following the review of nine liners and the subsequent trialling of two liners in a section of channel at Nevertire. The liner chosen is one made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber supplied by Firestone.  The first order of this product has been placed and work to lay it will begin on March 1, 2012.

Tenders were called for with regard to the carrying out of the earthworks to upgrade the channels and the laying of the liner in the channels.  McMahon Contractors have been appointed as the Head Contractor in the channel modernisation project.
